Ed Martin, a staunch Trump supporter and recently withdrawn nominee for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, was spat on by a passerby during a live Newsmax interview on Thursday, May 8. The incident came just hours after President Donald Trump pulled Martins nomination, citing a lack of support. Martin had been serving as interim U.S. attorney since January, following Trumps return to office. While speaking to a Newsmax correspondent, a woman approached, identified him, and said, You are Ed Martin. As he tried to respond with a greeting, she spat on him, called him a disgusting man, and walked away with her dog. Martin, visibly stunned, stepped off camera. Newsmax anchor Ed Henry described the woman as a crazed leftist, while host Rob Schmitt called her a psychotic lib on X (formerly Twitter), adding: Hope shes ready for a nice stretch in jail. Republican Senator Thom Tillis publicly opposed Martin's confirmation due to his involvement in the Stop the Steal movement. I have no tolerance for anyone who entered the building on Jan. 6, Tillis said. Thats where most of the friction was. Trump acknowledged the setback: He wasnt getting the support from people. To me, it was disappointing Thats just how it goes sometimes.The president has since announced his intention to nominate Fox News host and former Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro to the role.
