The Nigerian Army has ordered that its flags be flown at half-mast across all military formations in honour of 17 soldiers k!lled in recent attacks by insurgents in Niger and Kaduna states. In a statement released through its official website and verified social media account on Friday, June 27, the Army confirmed that the directive is part of a three-day mourning period. The mourning period will run from June 25 to 27, 2025, as a mark of respect and gratitude to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation, the statement said. The Army also confirmed that the soldiers died during attacks by gunmen on military bases in the affected areas. During this period, all military institutions and personnel across the country will fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast, it added. The Army expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and restated its commitment to honouring the memory of its personnel who die in active service. The Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding the dignity of every soldier who makes the ultimate sacrifice, the statement said.
