Family Dog dragged into pond by Alligator survives attack

A family dog named Zeus defied the odds after being dragged into a Florida pond by a massive alligatorand miraculously survived. The German Shepherd had wandered into the backyard of his home in Wesley Chapel on the night of June 2 after hearing a noise. Moments later, an alligator crashed through the fence, snatched him, and pulled him into a nearby pond. The vet told us the gator had just missed his jugular it looked like Zeuss entire head had been in the gators mouth, the family wrote on GoFundMe. The fact that he made it out alive is nothing short of a miracle.Zeuss owner, Susan Alkhatib, recalled the terrifying moment. My dad came in frantic. He said, The alligator just took Zeus. The family watched in horror as the gator thrashed in the water with Zeuss head in its jaws. Then, somehow, the dog broke free. We started yelling at him to come toward us, said Alkhatib. When he got closer, he got tired. So we had to go into the pond a little bit to get him. Zeus was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He suffered a broken jaw and multiple puncture wounds. His jaw had to be manually realigned and wired shut. For now, hes on a liquid diet administered by syringe and will require another surgery in about eight weeks. Hes also wearing a muzzle for at least a month. The family said they had seen the alligator earlier that day and recorded a video of it near the pond. Wildlife officials have since sent trappers to locate the animal, but it has yet to be captured. In the meantime, Zeus is recovering slowly. Despite it all, he continues to be such a trooper, the family shared. Hes getting tons of love, snuggles, and care.
