Robin Wright has opened up about her parenting regrets with her two children, Dylan, 34, and Hopper, 32, whom she shares with ex-husband and Hollywood movie star, Sean Penn. The actress, 59, admitted in an interview with the Times of London that she wasnt hard enough on them while they were growing up and has experienced the consequences of that decision for years. I have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids I wasnt hard enough on them, she said. Wright explained that while Penn, 65, was the tougher parent, his busy acting career kept him away from home for long periods. Hed come back and be the policeman and then hed leave me with the residue, she recalled. Then I would soften the blow. We were both extremes. They didnt get that grey area in the middle, which is stern, and that is what they needed. Both Dylan and Hopper had rebellious phases, with Hopper publicly sharing his battle with crystal meth addiction in 2017. Wright said the experience left her constantly worried: Every day if the phone rings youre like, Is he alive? Is she alive? I went through that for so many years with both of them.
Despite the rocky journey, Wright shared that her children are now in a really good place. Wright and Penn were married from 1996 to 2010 and have since remarried and divorced other partners. Wright is currently dating architect Henry Smith, whom she met in the UK. In 2023, Wright revealed that she and Penn had rekindled their friendship after a period of estrangement, describing divorce with children as one of the most difficult things in life but affirming, Were always gonna be a family, whether were together or apart, and I think thats beautiful.
