Veteran actor and filmmaker Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89. According to Daily Mail, the Oscar-winner died in his sleep on Tuesday at his home in Utah, outside of Provo, according to The New York Times. His publicist confirmed the news. Redford was one of Hollywoods most recognisable faces for decades, with leading roles in classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the Presidents Men. He made his big break on Broadway in 1963 with Barefoot in the Park before moving into film, where he went on to star alongside the likes of Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda. In 1980, Redford directed Ordinary People, which earned him an Academy Award. He later founded the Sundance Institute and helped build the Sundance Film Festival into a global platform for independent filmmakers. Redford remained active in Hollywood well into his later years. Over his lifetime, he received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
