A Kenyan woman, Wanja Kimani, has marked 12 years since a trusted friend drugged and r3ped her in guise of connecting her to jobs. Sharing a photo of her 11-year-old daughter, who was born as a result of the r3pe, Wanja recalled facing maltreatment after she was confirmed pregnant. According to the anti-trafficking consultant, her daughter is now a voiceover artist, a performing poet, model and published author. "Today marks exactly 12 years since a "friend" lied to me about connecting me to some jobs only to end up drugging me and r3ping me," she wrote in a Facebook post on Monday, September 1, 2025. "I was at a very vulnerable point in my life, and was even more vulnerable when in spite of going to hospital, I confirmed I was pregnant a few weeks later. I cannot even begin to narrate about the kind of maltreatment I faced, but I also won't ignore the fact that some people stood with me without caring how I had gotten there. "Today marks exactly 11 years and 4 months since I held this wonderful baby in my arms. Looking back, I'm glad I never gave up and am glad we still got each other. "I have been told that nobody owes us anything, but somehow we made it and overtook everyone who "didn't owe us anything" and now somehow we owe them help and connections. Weird world, ay?
