Police in Northern California are investigating a shooting that left three people injured inside the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara on Black Friday. San Jose police said officers responded around 5:40 p.m. after an adult man, an adult woman and a 16-year-old girl were found with gunshot wounds. All three were taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to survive. Authorities stressed that the episode was an isolated incident rather than an active shooter situation. According to law enforcement sources who spoke to ABC News, the violence began when an argument erupted between two people outside Macys on the malls second floor. Shots were fired moments later. Investigators believe the suspected shooter had been at the mall with several women pushing strollers, and that the entire group fled immediately afterward. As of the latest update, the suspect remains at large. San Jose Police Sgt. Jorge Garibay sought to reassure the public, saying, We can say, for a matter of fact, that this was not unsuspected shoppers that were targeted. This was an isolated incident with two individuals, and unfortunately, two others were injured. And this shouldnt stop people from enjoying their holiday. Footage from KGO-TV showed large crowds of Black Friday shoppers rushing to evacuate the mall, while a store window shattered by a bullet left glass scattered across the floor. Cellphone videos captured chaotic scenes as people scrambled for exits. In another clip, shoppers were seen evacuating with their hands raised, walking down escalators in single file as officers directed them out of one of the Bay Areas busiest shopping centers. Police are now reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses in hopes of identifying the shooter and the group who accompanied him before he escaped. Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information or video to come forward. The Westfield Valley Fair Mall straddles both San Jose and Santa Clara, drawing large crowds especially during major shopping events like Black Friday. Watch the video below.
