A driver attached to Abubakar Inuwa Kari, the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has been caught on camera physically assaulting a serving councillor. A viral video sighted online shows the driver identified as Adamu Danko, repeatedly slapping the councillor, Dan Buba, in an alley within the Gombe metropolis. The councillor was seen seated on his motorcycle, pleading and apologising in an apparent effort to de-escalate the confrontation. In the footage, voices believed to belong to individuals accompanying Danko could be heard challenging the councillor, with one voice saying, So you said you would slap the Chief of Staff? Danko was also heard verbally abusing the councillor, questioning his audacity and asserting the authority of the Chief of Staff. Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the assault allegedly followed the circulation of an audio recording purportedly linked to Dan Buba. In the recording, the councillor was accused of claiming that he received N30 million to slap the Chief of Staff. The incident has since generated strong reactions from the public, civil society groups, and political observers, many of whom have condemned the assault and called for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, a lawyer and human rights activist, Ahmed Ahmed Yerima, Esq., has condemned in strong terms the alleged assault on the serving councillor, Dan Buba, describing the act as unlawful, barbaric and a blatant violation of the rule of law. In a statement, the rights activist confirmed that Councillor Dan Buba was brutally assaulted and verbally abused by a driver reportedly attached to the Chief of Staff, Government House, Gombe State. "This act is unacceptable, condemnable, and completely contrary to the principles of the rule of law. We will not treat this incident with levity, nor allow such acts of impunity to go unchecked in our community, Yerima.
