Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have begun a nationwide protest over worsening insecurity across the country. The union members proceeded with the protest despite the late night meeting President Tinubu had with the union leaders last night where he appealed to them to shelve the proposed strike. The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement, gathered at the secretariat for the protest. Speaking to newsmen, Sowore said the country is facing a deepening security crisis, accusing the federal government of failing to protect Nigerians. For the civil society, the country is bleeding, and the bleeding must stop immediately. Nigerias leadership has failed to protect Nigerians at this time. People are getting kidnapped from places of worship, whether youre a Muslim or Christian. Weve over 250 kids still in captivity in Niger State, and everybody is behaving as if its normal, and everybody is moving on.We even have our soldiers, members of the air force, captured by Burkina Faso, and it looks like everything has broken down irretrievably, and weve a duty to keep mobilising Nigerians to say, Enough is enough.he said Meanwhile, security personnel have been deployed to the area, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
