Police arrest masquerade in Akwa Ibom days after state governor, Umo Eno, banned their activities



The police in Akwa Ibom state have arrested a masquerade for parading the state days after the state governor, Umo Eno, banned their activities in the state. Over the weekend, the Governor Eno, announced an indefinite ban on masquerade displays, citing rising attacks on residents by criminals hiding under the guise of traditional performances. Speaking at a state function, the governor said the decision became necessary following a series of violent incidents linked to individuals disguising themselves as masquerades to terrorise communities.
