A dramatic rescue unfolded in Ondo as police swooped in to save a 3-year-old boy from the clutches of two suspects. The attempted kidnapping took place in Ogbagi Akoko, where the child's mother, Mrs Olanireti, had sent her son, Alex Ayobami, to visit his grandmother who lived just behind their shop. But things took a dark turn when a concerned bystander, Oni, sounded the alarm after noticing suspicious activity involving the child.
The grandmother sprang into action, grabbing onto the suspects' motorcycle as they tried to make a getaway. Meanwhile, other residents quickly blocked their escape route, buying time for the authorities to arrive. By the time police operatives showed up, the child was safely back in his mother's arms, unharmed.
According to DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, the suspects, Adefarati Idowu and Adepoju Babatunde, were promptly arrested and are currently facing charges. The police are also investigating a suspected case of conspiracy and attempted child stealing, which was reported on March 22, 2026.
"We are grateful that the child was rescued safely and that our residents were vigilant enough to prevent a potentially tragic outcome," said the Ondo State Police Command, led by CP Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), mnips. The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
