Kidnappers Strike in Kano, Targeting Local Government Secretary

Troubling News in Kano: Local Government Secretary Abducted from His Home

In a shocking incident, gunmen stormed the residence of Hon. Hamza Musa Durba, Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano, and whisked him away in the dead of night. The attack occurred on the early hours of March 21, 2026, after the perpetrators had launched a surprise assault on the secretary's home in Dinya town.

According to Hon. Sabo Yusuf Usman, Speaker of the local government council, the incident unfolded around 1:00 a.m. when the secretary was fast asleep. The attackers cleverly devised a plan to gain entry into the house, by having the secretary's son, who was sleeping outside, pretend to have a stomach ache and knock on his father's door. The ruse worked, and when the secretary answered, the masked gunmen sprang into action, taking him and his son hostage.

However, in a bizarre twist, the attackers released the son shortly after, leaving the secretary behind. It's believed they made their escape before security operatives arrived at the scene. Kibiya Local Government has generally been a peaceful area, but the spillover of bandit attacks from neighboring towns like Tsanyawa and Shanono, which share borders with Katsina State, has raised concerns about the safety of its residents.
