Armed Assailants Attack Katsina Police, Leaving Two Officers Dead and Weapons Stolen
An incident occurred on April 7, 2026, in Katsina State, where suspected armed bandits ambushed a police convoy, leading to the deaths of two police personnel. The attack took place at about 5:50 p.m. at Sabon Garin Garu village in Musawa Local Government Area. The assailants, reportedly affiliated with notorious bandit leader Muhammadu, were said to be in large numbers, riding on about 30 motorcycles.
The police personnel, who were travelling from Zamfara State through Katsina State, were part of the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF). A swift response by police tactical teams led to a gun duel with the attackers, forcing them to retreat. However, two personnel were killed in the attack, identified as Sgt. Bilyaminu Babangida and PC Abdulaziz Musa.
Meanwhile, the attackers carted away the officers' service rifles and a riot gunner. Police reinforcements were subsequently deployed to block escape routes, while cordon and search operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen arms. Security authorities have intensified efforts to restore calm in the area and prevent further attacks along the axis, ensuring public safety remains a top priority.
