Armed Assailants Attack Zamfara Community, Leaving Medical Officer and Multiple Law Enforcement Officers Dead
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed a devastating attack on Yarkatsinan Laka community in Bungudu Local Government Area, which has left a Community Health Officer (CHO) and multiple law enforcement officers dead. The incident occurred on April 9, 2026, when a large number of armed bandits, estimated to be over 50, invaded the community on motorcycles, carrying sophisticated weapons. The attackers set ablaze a primary health centre and engaged police personnel in a gun duel.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Police Strike Unit responded swiftly to the attack, resulting in the neutralization of eleven bandits. However, the exchange of fire was fatal for two police personnel and three civilians, including a medical officer. One police officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, paid a condolence visit to the people of Yarkatsinan Laka Community, commiserating with the families of the deceased and the entire community. He reassured residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to strengthening the security architecture and restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the area. Normalcy has since been restored, with the Command urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance effective policing.
