Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken a significant step to boost his reputation in the United States with the help of a Washington-based lobbying firm. In a $1.2 million deal, Atiku has enlisted the services of Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a lobbying firm managed by Karl Von Batten. The agreement, signed in March 2026, aims to shape the perceptions of Atiku within U.S. policy circles and counter any negative narratives associated with the Nigerian government.
According to the contract, the firm will work to promote Atiku's leadership style and policy direction among U.S. decision-makers, while also countering the Nigerian government's lobbying efforts. As part of the agreement, the firm will arrange meetings between Atiku and U.S. officials, including members of Congress, and provide strategic advisory services on policy positioning and engagement.
The scope of work includes lobbying and government affairs outreach to lawmakers, congressional staff, and executive branch officials on key issues such as democratic governance, regional stability, economic development, and U.S. relations with Nigeria and West Africa. The firm will also handle public relations and perception management efforts, crafting messaging strategies and strengthening Atiku's narrative among key stakeholders in the U.S.
