Attackers Storm Katsina Community, Claiming a Policeman's Life and Targeting a Local Health Centre

Tragedy struck Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on April 5, 2026, when a group of attackers descended upon the community, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life in their wake. A brave police officer lost his life in the assault, which targeted the local police station and a vital Primary Health Care Centre. The attackers also went on a rampage, setting ablaze vehicles and ransacking shops, making off with valuable goods and supplies.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with residents caught off guard and forced to flee for their safety as the gunmen ran amok for hours. According to locals, the attack came as a surprise, given that the area had seen a significant reduction in such incidents since a peace agreement was reached. The sense of security and stability that had been gained was shattered in an instant, leaving many shaken and fearful.

In response to the crisis, Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda swiftly visited the affected community to assess the situation and offer support. He paid a somber visit to the damaged facilities, commiserating with the residents and expressing his condolences to those who had lost loved ones. The governor also reached out to the Divisional Police Officer and his team, offering his sympathies for the loss of their colleague. To prevent further attacks and restore normalcy to the area, Governor Radda directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Sayaya
