Breaking News: Ekiti Police Make Headway in Brutal Assault Case
In a significant development, the Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended two suspects linked to a shocking attack on officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikere-Ekiti. According to a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, on April 2, 2026, the suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at the NURTW Lagos Motor Park that same morning.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that about 20 hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons and traveling in five vehicles, stormed the park at around 8:00 a.m. Their target was the park's executives, whom they attempted to forcibly remove from their leadership positions. The attackers also took the time to vandalize campaign posters of All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in various parts of Ikere-Ekiti.
Thankfully, the police responded swiftly to a distress call and deployed officers to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Sunday Ogunsakin and Gbenga Oluwatosin. During their apprehension, the police recovered a Toyota Previa bus believed to have been used in the attack, as well as three cutlasses and a jackknife. Efforts are currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects.
