An incident occurred at Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, resulting in the death of 12-year-old Junior Secondary School student, Ufokobong Edwin Godwin. The student passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, after allegedly being hit in the school hostel by a senior student in Senior Secondary three (SS3) before the Easter holiday.
According to reports, the senior student had asked the victim for his provisions during exam period, but Ufokobong refused, stating he didn't have enough to share. The senior student then allegedly hit him on the neck, causing the victim to become unconscious. Other students raised an alarm, prompting the compound master to intervene, and Ufokobong was rushed to the hospital. He later regained consciousness and was taken back to school.
When the holiday arrived, Ufokobong's parents picked him up without being informed of any incident involving their son. At home, the boy developed severe pains on his neck and his parents sought medical attention. Unfortunately, Ufokobong's condition worsened, and his father rushed him to the hospital where he passed away on Easter Sunday. The hospital reportedly confirmed that he died from complications associated with blood clots around his throat.
The family of the deceased is demanding justice, and authorities have been alerted to the situation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Ufokobong's death.
