High-Tension Wire Explosion Claims Life in Ilorin, Leaves One Injured
A fatal accident occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, when a high-tension electricity wire supplying electricity to the Yakubu area snapped, leading to a fire outbreak. The incident resulted in the loss of one life and injured another individual. The high-tension wire had been left unattended despite prior warnings from residents, who had reported it to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) office in Ilorin.
According to eyewitnesses, the faulty wire had shown signs of imminent collapse and had been reported to the IBEDC office. However, no action was taken before it eventually snapped, sparking a fire that quickly spread across nearby buildings. Residents scrambled to salvage their belongings and prevent further destruction.
The deceased, Olabosun Isiaka, was a 30-year-old graduate of Kwara State Polytechnic who had recently completed his National Youth Service Corps programme. He was described as a young man with a promising future. Unfortunately, he lost his life in the fire incident. His younger brother was also injured in the incident, sustaining burns on his leg while trying to escape the inferno. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The authorities have responded to the incident, and the individual responsible for the maintenance of the high-tension wire is currently under investigation. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and attention to potentially hazardous infrastructure.
