Breaking News: Nigerian Troops Foil ISWAP Informant Attempt in Borno Border Region
In a significant operation, Nigerian troops have apprehended two suspected informants believed to be linked to the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State's border region with Niger. The arrests took place on April 3, 2026, during a routine patrol by troops stationed at Forward Operating Base Walada. The suspects, identified as Bafanami Mallam and Bakolo Bako, were trying to cross from Kainuwa area into Niger when they were intercepted at 0316 hours.
A thorough search of the suspects uncovered a substantial amount of cash, N159,500, as well as several personal items, including a Tecno Android phone, a PalmPay debit card, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, a Civilian Joint Task Force identity card, and a Lake Chad Fishermen Association identity card. The suspects are now in custody and undergoing a preliminary investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in suspected terrorist logistics and information support networks.
