It's been a somber start to the week in Maiduguri, Borno State, as five members of a vigilante group face arrest in connection with the tragic death of a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 4, 2026, during a wedding ceremony in the Ngomari area of the state capital, when the victim was hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by the vigilantes. According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, an investigation has been launched in collaboration with local authorities to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
As it turns out, the vigilantes were part of an escort team attached to a Local Government Area chairman, and they got a little too enthusiastic during the celebration, engaging in sporadic firing into the air.
