The father of Olga Carmona, whose goal won the Women’s World Cup for Spain on Sunday, has died.
The player was informed about his father’s death after the match.
After the final whistle, she was among the Spanish players celebrating and dancing on the field, and appeared to participate normally during the trophy presentation.
“The RFEF deeply regrets to communicate the passing of Olga Carmona’s father. The footballer learned this sad news after the conclusion of the World Cup final. We send our most heartfelt condolences to Olga and her family in this time of profound sorrow. We love you, Olga. You are a part of Spanish football history,” read the statement the Federation posted on its social media platforms.
