'Nationwide issue' causing airport border queues

Border Force is "currently experiencing a nationwide issue" leading to disruption, two of the UK's largest airports have said.

Heathrow said it was supporting Border Force to resolve the problem, in response to posts on social media about long queues at e-gates.

Gatwick also said some passengers "may experience delays at immigration" due to a nationwide issue with e-gates.

Border Force has been approached for comment.

A Heathrow spokesperson told the BBC they understood other airports could also be affected.

The airport apologised to passengers for the disruption.

A Gatwick spokesperson added that their staff were working with UK Border Force - who operate passport control including the e-gates - "to provide assistance to passengers where necessary".
