A government by graphic design, for graphic design, with graphic design - Activist Rinu Oduala calls out presidency over claim on religious freedom in Nigeria

Activist Rinu Oduala has taken a swipe at the Presidency after it shared a post affirming Nigerias commitment to religious liberty amid global criticism following recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Presidency, through its official X handle (@NGRPresident), had posted a series of quotes attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reiterating that Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty. The post added that since 2023, the Tinubu administration has maintained active engagement with both Christian and Muslim leaders to address security challenges affecting citizens across faiths and regions. However, Rinu Oduala, a prominent human rights and pro-democracy activist, mocked the governments communication style, writing: A government by graphic design, for graphic design, with graphic design . Her comment appeared to reference the governments use of graphic posts and infographics for official communications. The Presidencys post, tagged under the #RenewedHopeAgenda, comes amid heightened international attention to Nigerias human rights and religious freedom record.  It follows a wave of global reactions to Trumps controversial threat of possible U.S. military action against Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, a claim the Tinubu administration has denied, insisting Nigeria remains a multi-faith democracy with a constitution that safeguards freedom of religion.
