A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences following last months synagogue attack in UK that left two people dead. Police said the 31-year-old was detained on Thursday, November 27, after arriving on an inbound flight at Manchester Airport. He was arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. His detention brings the total number of arrests connected to Jihad al-Shamies October 2 attack to seven. Police previously confirmed that three people two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s were taken into custody after the incident. Officers later said six individuals believed to be associates of al-Shamie were arrested under terrorism laws as part of efforts to determine whether anyone had advance knowledge of his actions. Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were killed when Syrian-born Jihad al-Shamie drove his car into worshippers at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester before launching a knife attack. Armed police shot the attacker dead seven minutes after the rampage began. Officers opened fire when al-Shamie aggressively advanced towards them holding a knife and wearing what appeared to be a suicide vest. Adrian Daulby was struck by a single stray or possibly deflected bullet fired by police while trying to hold the synagogue doors shut to prevent the attacker from entering. Melvin Cravitz died after suffering multiple stab wounds. Three more people were injured during the assault on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Security guard Bernard Agyemang was run over, worshipper Andrew Franks was stabbed, and Yoni Finlay was accidentally struck by a police bullet inside the synagogue. Rabbi Daniel Walker, who was leading prayers, helped prevent al-Shamie from gaining entry to the building. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts said, At around midday today, officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the appalling terrorist attack that took place at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. The man was arrested at Manchester Airport after arriving on an inbound flight and has been taken into custody for questioning. The loved ones of Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz have been updated on this development, as have those who were seriously injured in the attack. Our investigation is continuing, and I would once again appeal for anyone with information that they think could assist our inquiries to please come forward. A 30-year-old man arrested on October 9 on suspicion of failing to disclose information under the Terrorism Act 2000 remains on bail. Police previously revealed that al-Shamie had been on bail over a suspected r@pe at the time of the attack. The Home Office has said he was not known to counterterrorism authorities. After the attack, al-Shamie made a 999 call stating, I have killed two Jews in the name of the Islamic State, later telling an operator he was responsible for the assault on the synagogue. He made the call immediately after driving into worshippers at the gate and stabbing victims. Despite his claims, police and MI5 have not identified any links between al-Shamie and ISIS or any other proscribed group. Security officials believe he acted as a lone wolf who was inspired by extremist ideology but operated independently.
