Notorious bandit leader Babaro reportedly imposes N50m levy on Katsina communities

Notorious bandit leader Mustapha Babaro has reportedly imposed a N50m levy on Yargoje and other communities in Kankara Local Government Area Katsina State.  According to security analyst and journalist Bakatsine, residents said Babaro issued a stern warning to villages on Saturday, November 22, saying that failure to pay the levy within the set deadline will have repercussions.  If this can happen in an LGA that held two peace parleys with bandits in less than 3 months, what kind of truce are local authorities in Katsina State actually reaching and how effective is it in protecting communities?, Bakatsine queried.  Recall that Babro was among the high profile bandit leaders that attended the peace dialogue conveyed by the leaders of Faskari LGA on Sunday, September 14, 2025 in a bid to bring an end to the relentless k!llings, kidnappings in the area.  According to security analyst Zagazola Makam, Babaro was believed to have spearheaded the recent brutal attack on a mosque in Mantau village, Malumfashi LGA, where 32 innocent worshippers were tragically k!lled and many injured.  Babaro has been terrorising the Kankara and Malumfashi areas, Zagazola added.  Babaro appeared at the meeting sporting a military camouflage jungle hat and brandishing an automatic rifle.
