

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old armed robbery suspect for abducting and r@ping a 13-year-old girl in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area of the state. The spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 said the suspect allegedly invaded a shop in the community with a locally made single-barrel gun and an axe and stole the sum of N30,000. According to the PPRO, the suspect who wore a mask abducted the minor, took her to a nearby bush where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. Ikenga added that the command will arraign the suspect in court on November 19, 2025. Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender unit, Awka with the assistance of the local community security outfit arrested one Chigbo Umeugokwe, male, 20 years old, of Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata LGA, on 11th November 2025, the statement read. "The suspect allegedly invaded a shop in the same community, on 29th October 2025 with a locally made single- barrel gun and a small axe. He was said to have worn a red polo shirt which he fashioned into a face mask and abducted a 13-year old girl, took her to a nearby bush where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The suspect also allegedly carted away the sum of N30,000 from the shop. "During interrogations, the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement. "The following exhibits were also recovered from him; one locally made single-barrel gun, one small axe and one red polo shirt used as a face mask. "He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, as part of the Commands commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing offenders to account.
