The Kebbi State Police Command has expressed alarm over intelligence indicating that some groups and non-governmental organisations are planning to stage a protest following the recent abduction of schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. In a statement issued on Friday, November 21, the Commands spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar, warned organisers to shelve the plan, saying the states current security climate is too fragile for any public demonstration. The police cautioned that such gatherings could inflame tension and possibly lead to violence. While acknowledging the widespread grief and outrage over the abduction, the Command described the proposed protest as misguided and counterproductive, insisting it could interfere with the delicate rescue efforts currently underway to secure the safe return of the kidnapped schoolgirls. The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that maintaining peace and stability remains their top priority. They urged residents to assist ongoing operations by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. The concerns come days after armed men stormed the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before abducting dozens of students. Witnesses said the attackers met no resistance, sparking widespread fear and mourning across the region. Makuku was reportedly shot while trying to protect his students during the attack. Community members have since offered prayers for him, asking Allah to grant him mercy and comfort his family after the tragic loss.
