Singer and activist Dare Fasasi popularly known as Baba Dee, has called out what he describes as deep-rooted corruption and mismanagement in Nigerias public systems, using his recent experience with the Lagos train service as a case study. In a post shared on Instagram, Baba Dee said he had to abandon his car and use the train while in Lagos because of the severe traffic on the roads. What he encountered, however, left him stunned. According to him, train stations were out of Cowrie cards in December, one of the busiest commuting periods of the year. How does that even happen? he asked. The situation reportedly got worse at the OrileIganmu station, where Dare said an attendant was openly collecting bank transfers into his personal account to allow passengers board the train. Commuters, he explained, paid because they had no other option. This is daylight robbery dressed up as public service, he wrote. Dare warned that such practices will quickly destroy public trust and kill train patronage, stressing that no system can survive when those meant to manage it treat it like a personal cash machine. You dont sabotage a system and expect it to survive, he stated.
