Hollywood icon George Clooney has fired back at US President Donald Trump after he mocked the actor for obtaining French citizenship. In late December, it was revealed that Clooney and his British-Lebanese wife received their French passports, joining their eight-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, in officially becoming French citizens. Clooney, a politically outspoken liberal, previously cited the country's privacy laws as one of the reasons why he and his wife decided to raise their children in France. In Trump's New Year's Eve post, he described Clooney as an 'average guy' as he slammed him after the From Dusk Till Dawn star and his wife secured French citizenship. Trump wrote: 'Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.' 'Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat,' he continued. Then, Trump referred to Clooney as 'average' and said the actor makes 'totally mediocre' films. 'Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies,' he wrote. 'He wasn't a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney said: 'I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We'll start in November.' .
