Police arrest individual for chopping off farmer's wrist with cutlass over disagreement involving three young ladys in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect for chopping a farmer's wrist in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area of the state.  The spokesperson of the police, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, December 3, 2026 reaffirmed the command's resolve to decisively tackle violent crimes across the state. According to the PPRO, the suspect, Sunday James, used a cutlass to sever Benua Bukari's wrist during a physical altercation. Ayanlade stated that the incident stemmed from a disagreement involving three girls.  Preliminary investigation revealed that one Benua Bukari (male), a farmer and resident of Ologede Village, Tede, had an altercation with one Sunday James, which escalated into a physical fight, the statement read. "During the fight, Sunday James allegedly used a cutlass to sever the right wrist of Benua Bukari.  "Following the report, a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tede Division, promptly mobilized to the scene, leading to the arrest of Sunday James, who is currently in police custody as investigation progresses.  "The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police, where he is presently receiving medical treatment.  "The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement involving three girls residing at Ibud Kareem Village, Tede.  In view of this, the Command strongly warns members of the public against taking the law into their own hands and advises individuals to always seek lawful, peaceful, and civil means of resolving disagreements without resorting to violence. Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the development and directed that the suspect be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.  He further reassured members of the public of the Commands unwavering commitment to ridding Oyo State of violent crime and ensuring a safer and more secure environment, in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police, whose leadership has continued to pave the way for robust and intelligence-driven security nationwide.  .
