Exciting news for Nigerian football fans - Ashleigh Plumptre has just completed a crucial surgery on her foot injury, and according to her club Al-Ittihad Ladies, it was a flying success. The talented Super Falcons defender will now have to take a break from the game for a few months while she recovers from the procedure.
This isn't the first time Plumptre has had to deal with a serious injury since joining Al-Ittihad - she suffered a bad one back in March 2024, just as she was hitting her stride in her debut season. At that time, she had already made a fantastic impression by scoring eight goals in just 12 appearances. Unfortunately, she was sidelined for around six months, which meant she also missed out on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris due to fitness concerns.
Now, Plumptre's focus will be on getting her body back to full fitness ahead of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in July 2026. It's a big event, and with her skills and experience, we're sure she'll be back to her best in no time.
