A Nigerian Soldier's Shocking Downfall: N114 Million Fraud Scandal Unfolds
Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, a Lagos-based soldier attached to the Army Engineers Corps, has been arrested and is currently at the center of a massive multi-million naira fraud scandal. The allegations against him are nothing short of staggering - large-scale impersonation and financial fraud, with a whopping sum of N114 million being the focal point of the investigation. According to reports, the soldier was attempting to travel to Abuja when he was apprehended at the Port Harcourt International Airport, a move that was precipitated by ongoing investigations into his activities.
It's alleged that Simon had been presenting himself as a key operative involved in the 2010 operation that led to the killing of notorious kidnap suspect Obioma Nwankwo, also known as Osisikankwu. This false claim reportedly earned him recognition and promises of assistance from the Abia State Government, including medical support. However, investigators claim that Simon was already under scrutiny by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for separate fraud-related complaints involving individuals and organisations.
