Violence Erupted in a Plateau Community Last Night, Leaving a Trail of Death and Injury
Just after 10:45 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a group of heavily armed gunmen descended upon Rim village in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, unleashed a barrage of gunfire in different directions, sending residents and local vigilantes fleeing into the nearby bush. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives in the senseless attack, while two others were left severely injured and rushed to the hospital.
According to Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), the community was thrown into chaos by the sudden and unexpected assault. "The gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10 pm on Tuesday and opened fire sporadically," Tengwong explained. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed, and two others are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
This latest attack is just another example of the recurring insecurity that has plagued parts of Riyom and other communities in Plateau State. In response, Tengwong is calling on security agencies to increase patrols in the area and bring the perpetrators to justice.
