A father and his teenage son found themselves on the wrong side of the law recently after being arrested by the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the Ogun State Police Command for unlawful possession of a firearm. The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Joseph Kehinde M and his 13-year-old son John Joseph M, were apprehended on Sunday, April 5, 2026, around 11am along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road axis.
According to DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the police command's spokesman, the younger son was stopped and searched while riding a tricycle in the Lafarge area. During the search, operatives found a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask, which the boy couldn't explain the ownership of. When questioned further, the boy claimed that the firearm belonged to his father, which led the police to intensify their efforts and eventually arrest the 38-year-old father.
Both suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation, which is ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the case. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court. Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives involved, reiterating the command's zero-tolerance stance on illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities.
