Machete Attack Leaves Three Children Dead in Ondo Community
An incident occurred on Tuesday, April 6, 2026, in Okitipupa, Ondo State, resulting in the tragic loss of three children's lives. The victims, all members of the same extended family, were reportedly attacked and killed with a machete inside their home. According to preliminary information gathered from residents, the suspect, a male relative believed to be mentally unstable, allegedly carried out the attack earlier in the day. The victims include a female student enrolled in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme and two young boys. The deceased are related to the head of the family, Baba Agbaye, and his wife, who were away from home at the time of the incident.
The family, including Baba Agbaye and his wife, had gone to their oil farm earlier on Tuesday and reportedly encountered the suspect on their way back. However, they were unaware that he had already carried out the act. The suspect claimed he was coming from Baba Agbaye's house when questioned by the family members. The victims' bodies have since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital.
As authorities respond to the incident, the community is in shock. The individual responsible for the attack is expected to be taken into custody as the investigation unfolds. The situation remains a tragic reminder of the importance of community support and mental health awareness.
