Tragedy struck in Ariko, Kaduna State, on Easter Sunday when bandits launched a devastating attack on two churches, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake. The early morning assault resulted in the loss of several lives, with many more being taken captive by the ruthless perpetrators. However, in what initially seemed like a glimmer of hope, the Nigerian Army reported that they had successfully rescued 31 worshippers abducted from one of the affected churches, ECWA. The Army also claimed to have recovered the bodies of five other victims who had lost their lives in the brutal attack.
However, it appears that this news may have been premature. The Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA) has come forward to contradict these claims, stating that the abducted individuals are still very much in the custody of their captors. In a statement released on Monday, April 6, the President of KUDA, Dr. Joseph David Ariko, confirmed that families and representatives of the victims are still in direct contact with the bandits, who have revealed that the victims are being held at their camp. This revelation raises serious concerns about the accuracy of the initial reports and the impact it may have had on the families of the victims, creating false hope and eroding trust in official information.
