Lagos Airport Authorities Thwart High-Value Equipment Heist
In a swift and decisive move, the Airport Police Command has apprehended a suspect involved in the stealing of millions of naira worth of equipment from his former place of employment, an IT solutions company. George Ikpe, a 28-year-old suspect, was arrested on April 3rd by operatives of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Police Division following diligent intelligence gathering and investigation. According to ASP Mohammed Adeola, the command's spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect gained unauthorized access to the company's premises, located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport axis, and made away with critical equipment.
A thorough review of the company's CCTV footage clearly captured the suspect's movements and aided in confirming his identity. The stolen items, valued at approximately N15,072,000, include two custom-made Vovida Central Processing Units (CPUs) worth N10,357,000 and one high-end printer valued at N4,715,000. Notably, further investigation led to the recovery of the stolen CPUs, but unfortunately, the high-end printer had already been sold prior to the suspect's arrest.
According to Adeola, the suspect confessed that he committed the crime as an act of revenge following the termination of his employment with the company. This incident highlights the increasing trend of workplace-related crimes, where former employees resort to theft or sabotage as a form of retribution. Meanwhile, the company and its employees are left to deal with the financial and emotional fallout of such incidents.
The Airport Police Command's swift response and diligent investigation have prevented further losses and ensured that the suspect will face justice. As a result, the command's spokesperson has stated that the suspect will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of investigations.
