In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a young student mother left her newborn baby behind at a hospital in Kwara State after giving birth. Happily, the baby is now in safe hands, thanks to the State Ministry of Women Affairs, which took in the little one on Friday, April 3. The ministry is committed to caring for and protecting orphaned and vulnerable children, and is doing just that with this tiny new addition.
According to Opeyemi Oluwakemi, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, the baby was born on Thursday, and was subsequently brought to the ministry by Officer Medinat Garuba of the Nigeria Police Force and Giwa Luqman, Chief Medical Director of Apalara Medical Hospital. Iyanu Lawal, Press Secretary for the Ministry of Women Affairs, released a statement commending the good people who brought the baby to their doorstep, and assuring the public that the state government will provide all the medical and physical care the baby needs, as every child counts in Kwara State.
But what led to this unfortunate situation? It turns out that the baby's mother, also a student, had initially considered terminating her pregnancy, but after some counseling from Chief Medical Director Luqman, she decided to carry the baby to term.
