The Power Struggle Within: Senator Ishaku Abbo Breaks Down the ADC Crisis
Senator Ishaku Abbo, representing Adamawa north, has shed light on the African Democratic Congress's (ADC) leadership woes, pointing to internal conflicts, betrayal, and outside meddling as the root causes. This crisis reached a boiling point when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it would no longer recognize factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala, citing a Court of Appeal judgment and ongoing litigation.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Senator Abbo revealed that the power struggle began when Nafiu Bala and members of the party's national working committee stepped down to make way for a new leadership structure. He recalled an incident where Bala was seen celebrating the takeover of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as national chairman and secretary. According to Abbo, an agreement was made to allocate party positions across geopolitical zones, allowing members from the existing structure to be part of the larger ADC.
The senator claimed that Nafiu Bala was initially promised the position of national vice-chairman for the north-east, but this agreement was later not honored. When the David Mark-led NWC was formed, they reneged on the earlier agreement, installing Babachir David Lawal in the position instead.
