The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is making it clear that any resolution to the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran must prioritize the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. For the UAE, this vital waterway, which accounts for about one-fifth of the world's daily oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, is not a bargaining chip in geopolitical disputes, but a global economic priority that must be protected at all costs.
According to Anwar Gargash, a senior UAE official, any agreement to resolve the conflict must ensure uninterrupted navigation through the Strait. While the UAE supports a peaceful resolution to the conflict, Gargash emphasized that a ceasefire that ignores the deeper issues between the US and Iran would be unacceptable. He warned that failing to address Iran's nuclear ambitions and its missile and drone capabilities could lead to a more unstable and volatile region.
The UAE is not only committed to securing its own shipping routes, but also stands ready to support international efforts, particularly those led by the US, to protect the Strait of Hormuz.
