Former Presidential aide and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Bashir Ahmad, has faulted claims by a United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, over revelations from an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Benue State, describing the congressmans position as biased. Moore, who represents West Virginias Second District, was part of a recent congressional delegation to Nigeria on a fact finding mission over allegations of a Christian genocide and had visited an IDP camp in Benue. In a statement released on Tuesday night, the US lawmaker said more than 600,000 Christians had been displaced in Benue State alone. He added that the victims, who were driven from their ancestral homes following attacks by what he described as Islamic extremists, narrated what he called horrible stories, noting that the accounts of the killings and violence would remain with him for life.
Reacting to the claims, Bashir, a former presidential spokesperson, accused Moore of failing to present a balanced picture of the humanitarian situation in Nigeria. In a post on his official X handle, he questioned why the American lawmaker did not extend his visit to other parts of the country where displaced Muslims are also taking refuge in IDP camps. The fact that there are IDP camps in Benue doesnt mean there are none in other parts of the country. Had it been he wasnt already biased in his outlook, he would have made himself available to visit other places and see the situation for himself, Bashir said.
