Tragic news has emerged from Iran as two young men have lost their lives in a heartbreaking execution. On April 5, Mohammadamin Biglari, a 19-year-old boy, and Shahin Vahedparast Kalour, a 30-year-old man, were hanged at Ghezel Hesar Prison at dawn. Their executions bring the total number of protesters killed in custody to at least 25, with several others facing a similar fate.
Their arrests date back to January, when they were seized during anti-regime protests. The two men were accused of arson after a fire broke out at the base of the feared Basij paramilitary base. Despite their families' desperate searches, Mohammadamin Biglari's father had to endure three weeks of uncertainty, scouring the bodies of thousands of victims, before learning that his son was being held in prison.
Mohammadamin Biglari and Shahin Vahedparast Kalour confessed to the charges after weeks of imprisonment, where torture is widely reported. They were brought before the Revolutionary Court in Tehran on February 6, where they were convicted of Moharaebeh, or enmity against God, and sentenced to death by Death Judge Abolghassem Salavati.
According to Mahmoud Amiry-Moghaddam, director of Iran Human Rights, these executions are part of a deliberate policy to intimidate the Iranian people and prevent new protests. He warns that many more hangings will follow if the
