The proposed name change, set to take effect on July 1, still needs the approval of the Federal Aviation Administration, which must update navigational charts and databases. According to the FAA, while the name change is a local decision, it's essential to complete these administrative tasks to ensure a smooth transition.
This move comes as no surprise, given President Trump's frequent visits to Palm Beach International Airport, where he often lands on Air Force One for weekends spent at his luxurious Mar-a-Lago resort just a few miles away. The resort is located in a legislative district that recently flipped to the Democrats, a significant electoral victory. Interestingly, an entity managed by the Trump Organization has already filed a trademark application for the new airport name.
The bill, signed by Governor DeSantis, a former rival of Trump's during the 2024 primaries, includes a provision that ensures Palm Beach County can use the Trump airport name and related abbreviations at no cost.
