The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over allegations that President Bola Tinubu is meddling in the party's internal affairs. But in a strong-worded press conference in Abuja, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru dismissed these claims as nothing more than baseless accusations, designed to sidestep the real issues plaguing the ADC. The Mark-led faction had accused the President of interfering in opposition politics, allegedly trying to weaken other parties ahead of the 2027 general election, but the APC is having none of it.
According to Basiru, the President has no legal authority to meddle in the affairs of political parties or the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stressed that claims to the contrary are not only misleading but also amount to propaganda. Basiru pointed out that the ongoing crisis within the ADC is a result of internal disagreements and legal issues, rather than any external influence. The APC is also defending INEC's actions, saying the electoral body is simply following a Court of Appeal ruling that dismissed an appeal by the Mark-led faction and directed parties to maintain the status quo pending further proceedings.
