A harrowing scandal has come to light in Hull, United Kingdom, where a funeral director's shocking admission has left families reeling. Robert Bush, 47, the owner of Legacy Funeral Directors, has confessed to storing the bodies of at least 30 people in fridges, deceiving grieving families with false ashes, and collecting money for cremation services that were never carried out.
The staggering truth was revealed during a police raid in March 2024, which discovered dozens of bodies in the fridges. Among the remains, a 94-year-old man, Norman Bridger, was found nearly a year after his passing. Families had attended funeral services in good faith, only to later learn that the coffins were empty, and the ashes they received belonged to strangers. Bush charged families around £1,600 (approximately $2,100 USD) per cremation, while also collecting donations for charities.
In court, Bush admitted to preventing the lawful burial of at least 30 people, prompting outrage from investigators and the families affected.
