A Tense Week in Plateau: Civilians Caught in the Crossfire
A wave of unrest swept through multiple communities in Jos North Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of three innocent lives. The violence first erupted on April 1, after a previous attack on commuters and residents near Angwan Rukuba Junction on March 29 had heightened tensions in the area. Fears of reprisals hung in the air, and it wasn't long before those fears became a harsh reality as coordinated disturbances broke out in various parts of Jos metropolis.
According to security sources, the chaos began around 9:30 a.m. in the Nasarawa area of Jos North, quickly spreading to other volatile locations such as Katako Junction, Farin Gada, and Gada Biu. Hoodlums took advantage of the tense atmosphere, attacking properties and trying to ignite further violence in the affected areas.
But thanks to the swift intervention of troops from the Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army, Operation Enduring Peace, and other special forces, the situation was brought under control. Working alongside personnel from sister security agencies, they were able to contain the disturbances and prevent a wider outbreak of communal clashes.
"The troops responded decisively and were able to stabilise the situation across the affected locations," a security official revealed. "Their presence prevented further escalation and restored relative calm in the metropolis."
