Dino Melaye, former senator for Kogi West and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is taking a stand against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its decision to remove David Mark as chairman of the party. According to Melaye, INEC's move is a misinterpretation of the law that aims to undermine the party's internal processes.
Melaye expressed his frustration on Channels Television's The Morning Brief, stating that the electoral body is "joking" by trying to leave the party without a leader at a time when registration and congresses are ongoing. He emphasized that the party will not be deterred and will pursue the matter legally, adding that they will also take a more aggressive approach by criminalizing the activities of INEC officials.
Melaye's party has already initiated legal action against INEC, and he revealed that they are preparing to escalate the matter further. He also accused the commission of bias, citing a letter written by a former party member who voluntarily resigned on May 17. Melaye believes that this shows INEC has taken sides in the dispute, and he's determined to prove that the people own the government, not just those in power. As he put it, "The country belongs to all of us, and that ADC will participate."
