In a shocking turn of events, a driver and two others are now facing the law over the alleged theft of millions of naira worth of jewellery, cash, and a mobile phone belonging to the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. The suspects, Sulaiman Yakubu Kulkude, Idris Musa, and Abdullahi Usaini, appeared in court after being charged with conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.
According to the prosecution, Sulaiman Yakubu, who has been serving as the Emir's wife's driver, was the mastermind behind the theft. The court heard that Sulaiman unlawfully entered his employer's room and made off with the stolen goods, which include jewellery valued at a whopping N60 million, cash, and a mobile phone. While Sulaiman pleaded guilty to all charges, Idris Musa and Abdullahi Usaini denied any wrongdoing.
The defence team, led by Barrister A.A. Abdullahi, requested bail for the defendants, but the presiding Magistrate, Halilu Abdurahman, imposed strict conditions before granting the request. To secure their release, the defendants must find a surety who is either a father or brother, a civil servant with a Grade Level of 15 or above, and pay a bail sum of N10 million each.
