Kogi Police Arrest Suspects Linked to Mysterious Death of NYSC Awardee

The Kogi State Police Command has made significant progress in solving the mysterious death of Aminu Abubakar, a fresh graduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University. According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, on April 7, 2026, two suspects, Garba Godwin Ibrahim and Ashema Usman Samso, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The arrest was made possible through a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department. The suspects, who are ex-convicts with a history of armed robbery and culpable homicide, were linked to the deaths of over 16 persons in their previous convictions.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding Aminu Abubakar's death remain unclear. Investigation revealed that the suspects posed as construction workers and deceitfully lured the victim to a secluded location, where they attacked him and stole his tricycle.

As a result of the police operation, the Kogi State Police Command has successfully recovered stolen tricycles and motorcycles, and dismantled a criminal operation that was linked to violent crimes. The incident occurred on March 18, 2026, when the command received a report regarding a case of culpable homicide involving Aminu Abubakar, a resident of the Otokiti area of Lokoja.

The authorities responded swiftly to the incident, and the individual was taken into custody following a thorough investigation. The case is still ongoing, and further details are yet to be released.
